Yamaha were proud to present an exhibition celebrating 50 years of Grand Prix road racing.

Motorsport has been a prevalent part of our philosophy and soul from the earliest phasesof Yamaha Motor Company’s history until today. We believe that racing inspires and excites and we love the challenge. This is the Yamaha spirit. We are privileged and proud that so many people around the globe share this passion and enjoy the thrill of racing as much as we do. From the competitive ‘heat’ of the race track, technological developments have been pushed and accelerated. Performance, handling and reliability are constantly refined to find those extra tenths to gain the advantage for that race victory or world title. For Yamaha, the constant drive for achievement and perfection is still as vibrant today as it was fifty years ago and will remain so in the future.

In 2011 we proudly celebrate 50 years of racing in the FIM Grand Prix world championship.

Since May 1961, when we took our first bold steps in Grand Prix, Yamaha has clinched 36 rider’s world titles and scored over 450 grand prix victories. To commemorate all of Yamaha’s Grand Prix milestones and magic moments and to remember Yamaha’s stars, Yamaha Motor Europe have created this amazing exhibition celebrating all five racing decades. From Yamaha’s very first World Champion Phil Read to their latest, Jorge Lorenzo, we show how our racing technology through fifty years of competition has filtered through to the road and unveil some memorable moments from Yamaha’s racing icons.

Yamaha will strive to deliver the same level of quality, innovation and excitement in the next 50 years.
