ACU Try Trials
This year the Auto Cycle Union Ltd (ACU), in conjunction with BUMPY (Birstall Urban Motorcycle Project for Youth) will provide visitors with the opportunity to try out the sport of trials during a free of charge trials riding session.
Throughout the day there will be opportunities to have a go, mixed in with demonstration sessions from the instructors, to show the capabilities of the bikes and the skill of the riders.
The ACU Try Trials sessions last 15 minutes and include full instruction from ACU certified coaches. All appropriate protective clothing is provided, zero tolerance on alcohol is accepted and participants will be required to sign a declaration to take part. This feature is subject to availability and meeting the criteria set by BUMPY.
BUMPY is a charity which was set up in 1989 to provide a safe, supervised place for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in riding motorbikes on road and off road. Bumpy also educate young people who attend their facility in a range of programs including drugs awareness and the fire service are built into projects, motorcycles being the tool to engage the young people.
Over the years, Bumpy have changed, adapted and improved their facilities to provide the services which they can deliver, to a diverse clientele, many being hard to reach young people including those with disabilities and learning difficulties. Bumpy have close links with young people’s services along with the local church groups bring community cohesion into the heart of Bumpy.
Petrol bikes are available for visitors over the age of 16 years old and holding a full DVLA Bike Licence for a geared machine or an ACU Competition licence. For non-licence holders a limited number of electric trials bikes will be available. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them.
